Nimi Places 20260621 released - the 200th public build since 2010!

With its 200th public build since 2010, Nimi Places 20260621 introduces major stability updates alongside better localization handling.

Today, we release the latest build of Nimi Places 20260621, which is 200th public build since 2010!

Importantly, the build addresses a reported threading related issue by revising thread cancellation from forced interruption to cooperative, state-based signalling. Additionally, delayed tasks error handling has been revised so that, while these changes are expected to resolve the issue, they also allow finer detection of its underlying cause if it persists.

Secondly, the build improves localization support with better handling of RTL/LTR text and its rendering. Notably, repeated localization lookup is now constant time, meaning that Nimi Places should maintain its near-baseline performance regardless of whether localization is used.

We would like to clarify that although this is the 200th public build since 2010, it is not a milestone release.

Nimi Places 20260621

  • Added fixed-index caching to the localization module, making repeated localization lookups constant time.
  • Fixed batch icon updates in settings list view not working due to state being overwritten instead of accumulated.
  • Fixed checking if UI string needs LTR conversion, when not using localizations.
  • Fixed delayed tasks cancellation should wait for pending to finish.
  • Fixed file and folder rules not being explicitly unloaded slowing down application closing.
  • Fixed needless context menu width estimation for each context menu item.
  • Fixed not using unique state for marking delayed tasks as being disposed.
  • Fixed path syntax validation incorrectly treating digits as valid drive letters.
  • Fixed settings list view icon updating could not work for batch updates, as as regen detection was overwritten instead of preserved per batch.
  • Fixed settings list view not releasing all resources on its dispose.
  • Fixed shell property memory not being explicitly freed due to using a zeroized variable instead of the cached one.
  • Fixed text measurements cache deleting DC instead of releasing it.
  • Fixed thumbnail resolving should ensure that unused thumbnail is disposed in case of error.
  • Removed ignoring errors for delayed tasks.
  • Improved RTL/LTR text rendering in context menus, especially for mixed-direction items.
  • Optimized collection lookup state tracking during deletions to avoid redundant invalidation in additional cases.
  • Optimized comparer implementations by removing unnecessary strictness in comparison result handling.
  • Revised application closing sequence and logic.
  • Revised application restart requests and related to occur after its uninitialization.
  • Revised dispose and finalization logic.
  • Revised file system observer threads uninitialization logic to use breakpoints.

  • Revised thumbnail and context menu icons resolving to treat abandoned secondary waits as soft-errors.
  • Expanded typography cache measurement to include non-ASCII characters across multiple writing systems.
