Nimi Places 20260504 released
Newest Nimi Places 20260504 brings not only improved stability and performance due to architectural changes, but now also offers localization for 11 languages.
Today, we release the latest build of Nimi Places 20260504, which not only focuses on improving stability and performance, but also introduces localization for 10 languages alongside English:
- Arabic,
- Chinese (simplified),
- French,
- German,
- Hindi,
- Japanese,
- Korean,
- Polish,
- Russian,
- Spanish.
We hope to add more localizations in the future, and we sincerely apologize to all Users whose native languages are not yet included. We encourage everyone to use the provided localization and specification as a foundation and inspiration for creating their own versions, and to share them within their local communities. We also welcome any suggestions that could help refine or further enhance the existing localizations.
Localization template
Distribution package contains bundled localization template (with .ignore extension) containing strings that are used by given build of Nimi Places.
Secondary, major change for Nimi Places is third in project history change of hashing algorithm. Last change happened in 2019. Apparently previous algorithm did not provide desired avalanche effect and distribution. This means that application caches have to be re-cached. Please mind that container bounds restoring also got affected, but by design it is resilient. We apologize for inconvenience it may have caused.
Why existing hashes cannot be converted to new hashing method?
Simplifying, hashing is a one way process of mapping data of given size into one of fixed size. This means that it is possible for hashing method to output the same hash for different input — resulting in collision.
Other major change is revision of automatic startup support. Firstly, support for handling startup via shortcuts has been restored. Secondly, new default method for enlisting for automatic startup has been added for newer operating systems: automatic startup via scheduled tasks. This method ensures that application is launched upon logon.
There are also multiple fixes like fixing shortcuts data cache saving and restoring or fixing selective Place type container items rendering, when it is scrollable. All those alone improve application performance.
Notably, Users may now track and report errors using newly added projects issue tracker page section.
