On-going website updates
Recently Nimi website is being actively updated. This includes changes, additions, and removals of many of the website components. Unfortunately some were already abused.
As some could have noticed, recently there were some changes on the Nimi website.
Most noticably:
- line graphs data is now coalesced, where it may improve graphs readability.
- social sharing component selection of social media share buttons have been updated.
- rating system have been added.
Unfortunately few days after addition of the rating system it had been actively abused by being flooded with low ratings. While current design had shown some resistance, whole system still got severely affected. Thus, it has been strengthened and previous ratings discarded. Additionally, events rating had been removed as it got abused the most, and there are plans to replace it with the comments-like system in the nearest future.
We would like to emphasize that rating system abuse could be prevented by using CAPTCHA or fingerprinting to verify vote uniqueness. Such approaches are surely effective, however those either complicate rating process (like typing CAPTCHA to rate) or are discussable practices. In this regard we would like to remind that in the past we were forced to add CAPTCHA verification to prevent massive download system abuse.
Regardless of possible challenges, we are determined to keep rating system objective and privacy-oriented. We acknowledge that some website Visitors and projects Users, whom could use rating system may have very strict opinions and views. Moreover, we do believe that mainly those most discontent will use rating system. We praise their determination and want to ensure them that we care for all the feedback (even negative) and strive to improve upon it as time have shown.
