  • Why are some effects greyed out in settings?

    Effects are greyed out indicate that given effect can be applied in current effects configuration (other effects exclude) or its minimum requirements aren't met. To check if its cross-effect compatibility exclusion, in settings:

    • Press Disable all effects button on task list, to disable all effects.

    • Enable desired effect.

    • Wait for changes to apply (indicated by progressbar in right side of task list).

    • Check whether previously enabled effects are greyed out.

  • Why some of effects section is greyed out?

    Effects section are greyed out when one or more of methods required by effects in it is not available.

  • How do I uninstall Nimi Visuals?

    Nimi Visuals is distributed as portable. To remove Nimi Visuals:

    • Close Nimi Visuals if running
    • Delete it's files

  • How do I enable effects?

    To enable effects click on radio button or checkbox (if not disabled - greyed out) next to image and text effect description.

  • Where can I find effect description?

    For effect description depending on system settings hover mouse over effect image to display tooltip containg effect description.

  • Why window contents isn't updating when thumbnail based effects apply?

    Window content, when using thumbnail based effects, might not be updated when using basic thumbnail engine.

  • How to enable system thumbnail engine support?

    System thumbnail engine support should be automatically enabled if operating system version has thumbnail service.

  • Why Nimi Visuals takes long time to start up?

    Nimi Visuals can take long time to start up as it needs to initialize all components.

  • Why Nimi Visuals freezes when closing or changing effects?

    Nimi Visuals freezes when disabling and enabling event detection (like during close or changing effects) in order to try finish pending components and effects operations.

  • What is passive (emergency) event detection?

    Passive event detection is post event type detection - event is detected after it takes place making it unsuitable for timing critical effects.

  • How do I forcibly enable passive (emergency) event detection?

    To forcibly enable passive event detection add this line (without brackets) "fem|true" to Nimi Visuals settings file (nv.dat).

  • How do I change account for Nimi online services?

    To change Nimi Account:

    • Open effects settings.

    • Press "»" button on task list.

    • Select Change account for Nimi online services option in menu.

    • Enter User credentials.

    • Press Generate key to generate authentication key.

  • How do I change default color of effects?

    To change color of effects:

    • Open effects settings.

    • Press "»" button on task list.

    • Select Change effects colour option in menu.

    • Select new effects color in color pick dialog.

  • Why does windows flicker when applying some of effects?

    Windows might flicker when effects change window composition style from opaque to transparent, and casually later from transparent to opaque for performance concerns.

  • What to do when effects doesn't apply/What to do when event detection doesn't seem to work?

    If effects doesn't apply or event detection doesn't seem to work You might try one of steps below:

    • If not already enabled, forcibly enable passive event detection - second event detection mode.

    • Check mouse settings when using passive event detecition mechanism.

    • Check for software interferations for example other customization software.

  • How to enable/disable multi-effects?

    To enable/disable multi-effects:

    • Open settings window.

    • Click on checkbox next to effect image - check to enable, uncheck to disable effect

    • Wait for changes to apply (indicated by progressbar in right side of task list)

  • How to enable/disable excluding effects?

    To enable/disable excluding effects:

    • Open settings window.

    • Click on radio button next to effect image to enable effect. To disable select other radio button in same effects section.

    • Wait for changes to apply (indicated by progressbar in right side of task list)

    To disable all effects:

    • Open settings window.

    • Press Disable all effects button on task list, to disable all effects.

  • How to change application language?

    To change Nimi Visuals language:

    • Right click on Nimi Visuals icon (contour of window with star) in tray notification area to show effects service menu.

    • Select Quick toggle then Language

    • Pick language from list.

    • Restart Nimi Visuals for changes to apply.

  • How to install new language localization?

    To install new language localization copy its file into same directory as main executable.
